Brief:

Susanne Markgren is the Assistant Director of the Library for Technical Services at Manhattan College. She serves on both local and national committees of ACRL, and has written articles, book reviews, and chapters for a variety of publications and has co-authored the “Career Q&A with the Library Career People” advice column since 2003. Her book, co-authored with Tiffany Eatman Allen, came out in 2013 and is titled, Career Q&A: A Librarian’s Real-Life, Practical Guide to Managing a Successful Career. She received her MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin, and her MFA in creative writing from Manhattanville College.

Susanne Markgren is the Assistant Director of the Library for Technical Services at Manhattan College, in Riverdale, NY. Her prior library experience (before, during, and after library school) includes working in many different areas in many different types of libraries including: a small liberal arts college, an academic medical library, a large university library, two urban public library systems, a seminary library, a government library, and a theater library. She has served as a mentor in ALA’s NMRT Career Mentoring program, is on the ACRL New Publications Advisory Board, the ACRL/CLS Conference Program Planning – New Orleans, 2018 – Committee, and has served on the executive board of the Greater New York Metropolitan Chapter of ACRL for more than ten years. She holds a BA in History and English from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, an MLIS from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Manhattanville College. She has published articles in Serials LibrarianLibrary Administration & Management, C&RL News, Medical Reference Services Quarterly, LISCareer.com, and Info Career Trends Newsletter, and written book chapters for Our New Public, A Changing Clientele: Bewildering Issues or New Challenges for Managing Libraries? and Handbook of Research on Practices and Outcomes in E-Learning: Issues and Trends. Her book, co-authored with Tiffany Eatman Allen, came out in 2013 and is titled, Career Q&A: A Librarian’s Real-Life, Practical Guide to Managing a Successful Career. She has reviewed publications and web resources for CHOICE, Library Journal, and Public Services Quarterly and has doled out advice as a co-author of “Career Q&A with the Library Career People” since 2003.
